In Pretoria was ‘n “Boere Toevlug-kamp”. 2 November 1901 is die Irene Konsentrasiekamp geopen toe die Boerekamp daarheen verskuif is. Die kampe van Nylstroom en Pietersburg is later oorgeplaas na Irene. Kampkommandant Bruce het die begraafplaas gesluit vir verdere begrafnisse omdat dit in die middel van die kamp was en het ‘n tweede begraafplaas begin ongeveer 500m wes van die kamp.
Besoeke aan die begraafplaas na die oorlog was periodiek. Die SAVF het vanaf 1906 die terrein skoon gehou. Voor 1956 was daar geen Staatsinstansie wat na oorlogsgrafte omgesien het nie. In 1956 is ‘n Ad Hoc Komitee gestig. Die Oorlogsgrafte Komitee. Restourering van konsentrasiekampterreine begin 1958. Slegs 850 grafstene is gevind. Die graf klippestapels is verwyder vir ‘n gedenkmuur en plaveisel. Geen graf is opgegrawe nie. Die terrein is gelyk gemaak en grafstene in alfabetiese orde is opgerig. Die leiklipstene is vasgeskroef in vier symure. By die ingang is vier suile opgerig en voor die sentrale muur. Verwydering van die bekisting van voorste suile laat die laaste suil omval en die ander is omgedruk.
In 1965 word die kindergrafte in die tweede begraafplaas opgegrawe en in ‘n Praalgraf geplaas. Die lengte van die kiste, was volgens die lengte van ‘n femur. Geen volwassene is opgegrawe nie. In 1989 is die Praalgraf met marmer bedek. Van die grafsteentjies teen die mure is gesteel. Almal is verwyder en word in ‘n vraghouer op die terrein geberg. Kampinwoners het geweier dat Britse soldate daar begrawe word. Later is toegegee vir vyf. Die grafstene is na die oorlog deur Boere verniel. Net een het behoue gebly. ‘n Kantoor is op die terrein gebou.
