Event description
New Museum Publication:
Foreign Involvement in the South African War, 1899-1902.
The War Museum in Bloemfontein, South Africa, has explored numerous aspects of the Anglo-Boer (South African) War of 1899–1902 through its publications and video productions. Our most recent project focuses on a lesser-known topic: Foreign Involvement in the South African War, 1899–1902. This initiative includes a book, a documentary, and a temporary exhibition.
Although relatively small in number, the active participation of foreign volunteers in the battles of the South African War carried significant symbolic value, demonstrating international solidarity with the Boer cause. In total, approximately 3,000 local foreign immigrants and volunteers from abroad took up arms against the Imperial forces.
